Adverb Poems

Over the last week we have been learning about adverbs. We were given a mission through the Night Zookeeper to write an adverb poem about the animals in our night zoo. A few students read them out to the class and Yuna and Cohen's were voted the class favourites. Here are their poems.

A beautiful pony galloped
peacefully
Yellow Banana the Minion ate
messily
The blue penguin skittered
loudly
Beautiful Twilight the Butterfly flew
gracefully
A tough monster attacked
roughly
The pink ice block melted
slowly
The annoying dog barked
naughtily
The pretty unicorn partied
royally
Mrs Burnett taught
happily
Wonderful Tauriel sang
quietly
An awesome leopard raced
quickly

By Yuna

Spotty Narwhal swam
loudly
Spiky Sonic ran
speedily
Big monkey climbed
angrily
Black crusher bowled
furiously
Tough dragon fired
powerfully
Spotty horse ran
away
Stripy rhinoceros ran
loudly
Spiky croc snapped
noisily
Little mouse skittered
quietly
Lazy cheetah purred
softly
Orange fox crept
speedily

Learning about adverbs

We have been taking turns to add to our Night Zoo on the computer. This week, while half the class were on the computer, the other half were learning about adverbs. We used a resource from Night Zookeeper, which was to write an adverb poem about animals. To help us understand what an adverb was, we used Piclits. Here are the piclits both groups made using just verbs and adverbs.

We're on the leaderboard!

We have been watching ourselves move up the leaderboard on Night Zookeeper this week. We are currently in 23 place. We are also the top NZ class on the leaderboard, which we think is pretty cool. We are developing fantastic creative writing skills every time we write about our animals. We'd love to make it in to the top 20, I wonder if we will!?

If You Learned Here

Room 17 is participating in a global collaboration project called 'If you learned here'. We think this fits perfectly with our inquiry concept 'connections'. Each week we are given a set of questions and we need to film a response using Flipgrid. We also can add photos and descriptions to Padlet.  We are really enjoying learning about other schools around the world as well as how to use different technology to record our responses. Eventually we will be submitting pages about our learning space to an e-book. Here's this week's contributions!

World Creative Writing Month

We have been participating in World Creative Writing Month through a website called the Night Zookeeper. We had to create an avatar (ourselves as a night zookeeper) and then we create animals and write about them. It's lots of fun and so far as a class we have written 2675 words! The goal for the month for everyone participating is 500, 000 words. We'd love to get in the top 20 classes, how awesome would that be! Have a look at what we've been creating and writing by clicking here
