Mini Maths Teachers

Last week the Room 17 students planned their own maths lessons to teach one another. They could do it on their own or in pairs. Today 5 groups are being taught. We have Zander teaching how to order 3-digit numbers, Samuel and Zachary are doing addition to 30, Isabel and Simone are doing 5x tables, Shyam and Aidan are working on how to add decimals and Grace is teaching her group about fractions. They are using Kahoot, games, equipment, worksheets and whiteboards to deliver their teaching!

Fireworks Fun

Our hands on homework for week 5 was to have some fun with fireworks! Not real ones, but to draw pictures, write poems, play with some online firework games and to share photos from family Guy Fawkes celebrations. We even had some fireworks made in Minecraft! Here are some of our creations.

Weeked with Fanta

Here is my story of Fanta's weekend with me.

"Your move Fanta" I said as we started playing Chess.  Wow after a number of sneaky moves Fanta won the game.  Just in time for me to go to Extreme entertainment.  Fanta needed to have a long rest after such an intense game of chess, and also Dad said Fanta couldn't go on his watch.

I made a bed just for Fanta.  He seemed to enjoy it too much and didn't like the early morning wake ups.

Fanta did lots of things with me such as calm colouring, playing Lego, watching movie, watching me ride my bike and playing cars.  On Sunday we went to the Monster Mud Rush and I told Fanta that he couldn't have a go as he is allergic to mud.  I think he was happy about that when he saw me at the end covered from head to toe.

Thank you Fanta for spending the weekend with me.

Game Design

Today we started exploring how to design a game. Last week we completed an 'Hour of Code' through code.org to understand how games are coded. Today we have been looking at how games are designed and we modified an existing game to see if we could improve it.

Modification Feedback (Our playtest)
- It worked for me and Eva (Grace)
- We played more than one game on the bigger grid (Sasha)
- Didn't work very well for us (Leo)
- It's kind of a waste of time drawing such a big grid (Zachary)
- Do you have to fill up the whole grid or should the amount we get in a row have to be bigger? (Bella)
- You can't go diagonally if you had to get ten in a row (Shyam)
- We changed it to ten in a row (Cohen)
- 10x10 is too many (Yuna)

Homelearning Challenge

Home learning for the last week of term 2 was to pick and choose activities from a Hot Units grid. It was based around traditional tales. Students could do as many of the different activities as they wanted, and included different levels of Blooms Taxonomy. Here's some photos of the different activities.

Anzac Home Learning

Last weeks hands-on homework was to learn about Anzac in any you wanted. Room 17 chose to write poems, draw pictures, bake Anzac biscuits, go to dawn services and lots more. Alex made an amazing diorama of a battle field. Room 17 are such motivated learners!

Our pages

We're at the end of our global collaboration to find out how schools around the world learn. Our final activity was to create two pages for the e-book about UHPS. Zack and Simone took the photos and Sasha and Zachary wrote the text. Here's a sneak peak at our contribution. We can't wait till the book is complete and we can see what all the other schools have created.
