Maths Workshops Day 2

Room 17 are loving being taught by one another! Jayden and Cohen are working together to teach 5x tables, Bella is teaching rounding, Hannah is teaching her group about addition, Angelina is teaching divided by 10 and Allen and Leo are working as a team to teach the 9x table.

Doodle for Google

Room 17 have been working hard on their Doodle for Google entries. This is a competition to design a new Google logo. The theme this year was ...'if I could go back in time.' Everyone did an amazing job but we could only send away a few for the competition. Here are our R17 winners! Can you tell where in time they'd go back to?

Game Design

Today we started exploring how to design a game. Last week we completed an 'Hour of Code' through code.org to understand how games are coded. Today we have been looking at how games are designed and we modified an existing game to see if we could improve it.

Modification Feedback (Our playtest)
- It worked for me and Eva (Grace)
- We played more than one game on the bigger grid (Sasha)
- Didn't work very well for us (Leo)
- It's kind of a waste of time drawing such a big grid (Zachary)
- Do you have to fill up the whole grid or should the amount we get in a row have to be bigger? (Bella)
- You can't go diagonally if you had to get ten in a row (Shyam)
- We changed it to ten in a row (Cohen)
- 10x10 is too many (Yuna)

Teach Me Tuesday - Week 1-3

We've had some fabulous Teach Me Tuesdays since the start of Term 3. Angelina and Helen taught us how to say some basic words in Mandarin. Allen and Leo used their resilience to overcome some initial problems and taught us how to change our character skins on Minecraft. We perfected our tap dancing skills under Yuna's tuition and then found out some interesting facts about how bees make honey, thanks to Eva. We even got to taste some of her Opa's honey!

Ropere's Decimal Lesson

The Ropere maths group have been learning how to add decimals. They made this video to explain how to do it!

100WC - Leo's Entry

I am so heavy. When I was walking across the path I saw a tornado. I said "who cares." I was never scared of tornadoes. I walked towards the tornado. When I was a little closer to the tornado, I ran straight into it but the ferocious wind couldn't hold me. I was too heavy. I punched and kicked the tornado. It suddenly stopped. "Yay," I shouted but it started again. The tornado was trying so hard, it only lifted me up 3cm. I was laughing so hard that my head fell off. I picked up my head and stuck it back on with tape.

"What am I doing on this useless log?" I said. Suddenly though a massive tree an emu flew at me. I said "Who cares". Ahhhh it's an emu. His foot is smelling like a trout and his foot is massive. I want to fight him but he just slapped me on the face with his toe. I didn't die because I was lego. I rang a human that I didn't know and he built me again. When he fixed me I weed on his hand. I built myself a black skateboard but when I tried it I fell off the tree.

He danced and pranced all day long.

He ate cornflakes and never said it was wrong.

People said it was exciting to go to the zoo

But one day there was a "kaboo."

The lion got scared and roared like a drum.

He ignored cornflake even though it was yum.

The lion had a friend called Funny Monkey.

He ate bananas and he was very funky.

He even had a friend called Gerald the Giraffe.

Gerald the Giraffe always wore scarves.

100 Word Challenge - Leo and Zander

I was on a plane at night time. Everyone was asleep except me. Last time lots of men were snoring but this time the silence was deafening. Then I put my earphones on and watched a movie. Suddenly the sun came out. I saw land. A baby burst out crying. Lots of people woke up just then. It became noisy again and the silence was gone. The plane was about to land at Sydney airport. When I looked out the window I saw something like snow but it was actually clouds. There was a big bumpy, thumpy noise. We landed.
