100WC - Leo's Entry
There once was a lion that lived in the zoo.
The lion had never seen a loo.
He danced and pranced all day long.
He ate cornflakes and never said it was wrong.
People said it was exciting to go to the zoo
But one day there was a "kaboo."
The lion got scared and roared like a drum.
He ignored cornflake even though it was yum.
The lion had a friend called Funny Monkey.
He ate bananas and he was very funky.
He even had a friend called Gerald the Giraffe.
Gerald the Giraffe always wore scarves.

100WC - Ava's Entry
Once upon a time, far away in an enchanted forest was an immense castle. In the castle was a gorgeous princess named Rachel. One day she decided to go for a stroll. Suddenly out of nowhere there was a lion with cornflake hair. He danced on drums. Rachel thought this was weird but exciting at the same time. She carefully crept away but the lion said "Oh you...yeah you! Where are you going? Don't you like my show?" Rachel said "no, no, no, I love your show. I thought you were going to eat me." The lion said...

100WC - Bella's Entry
I danced down the snowy path in the snowflakes. Suddenly a fierce lion pounced out of a bush. My face froze with amazement. "Nice to meet you," roared the cornflake coloured lion. "Nice to meet you too, I guess," I said with a lump in my throat. Then I couldn't believe my eyes...a talking drum! Next something exciting appeared. It was a graceful angel. What will happen next I thought? An apple dropped out of a tree. I let out a scream. Thank goodness it wasn't a singing monkey. At least I've got some nice, fun friends to play with.

Issy and her Monarch butterfly
Over the weekend I have been looking after a chrysalis which hatched into a Monarch butterfly! My Nana gave me a chrysalis hanging over a jar which needed looking after until it was ready to hatch. When the butterfly hatched my sister and I decided to call it Crisscross and we had to put her out in the garden to let her wings dry. She seemed to love crawling all over me and that was tickly! The day after she hatched her wings had dried out enough and she flew off.
Anzac Home Learning
Last weeks hands-on homework was to learn about Anzac in any you wanted. Room 17 chose to write poems, draw pictures, bake Anzac biscuits, go to dawn services and lots more. Alex made an amazing diorama of a battle field. Room 17 are such motivated learners!
Our pages
We're at the end of our global collaboration to find out how schools around the world learn. Our final activity was to create two pages for the e-book about UHPS. Zack and Simone took the photos and Sasha and Zachary wrote the text. Here's a sneak peak at our contribution. We can't wait till the book is complete and we can see what all the other schools have created.
We Will Remember Them
This morning we had an Anzac service at school. We remembered the soldiers who fought for our freedom.

Creativity Immersion
This week we have been finding out about creativity. Each day we've visited another class in the YOLO community and explored creativity in different ways. Mrs Burnett gave us a whole bunch of materials to create a boat that could float. Once our boats were floating, we put in marbles to see how many it would hold before it sunk. Here's some photos from all 4 YOLO community classes getting creative in Room 17.

We love Night Zookeeper
Yesterday marked the final day of World Creative Writing Month and our time on Night Zookeeper. We loved creating and writing about our own animals, competing against one another for the highest word count, checking to see where we were on the leaderboard and learning how to use this fabulous digital resource (hopefully we're now all experts at logging in and typing our username and passwords correctly). We will print out all of our animals and stories to create a resource for our class library. We finished up with a whopping 22017 words written as a class across the month and 14th place overall. We were aiming to be in the top 20 so 14th place is pretty awesome! We were also the top NZ class! Leo (Scarysquid) was our top writer, with a total of 5712 words written, 2nd place was Allen (Ninjacroc) with 4411 words and 3rd place goes to Helen (Sharpshrew) with 1332.
